In September 2016, BlueVenn surveyed over 200 marketers in the US and UK, to research what challenges marketers currently face with data and technology. With an abundance of buzzwords coming out of the MarTech industry, we wanted to explore which of them were considered the "Holy Grail of marketing" and which were thought to be "mythical beasts".

Customers are changing: embrace it

This is not a political post, but the recent and unexpected results of the US election and ‘Brexit’ are glaring examples of how unpredictable the consumer has become in modern society. Attitudes have changed: we consume information differently, buy differently and clearly vote differently.

How do you encourage customers to give up their data for personalization?

Creating a personalized experience for their customers is something that many brands consider the most important goal of their data-driven marketing strategy.

You do not have to look far to find evidence to understand this desire. A survey published by eMarketer says 82% of marketers have experienced an increase in open rates, 75% have seen higher email click through rate and 56% have witnessed an increase in sales by using personalization. One example from VentureBeat documents a retailer who reported a massive 103% lift in revenue when comparing a personalized email to a control email.
